About Us

Family Crisis Support Services (FCSS) has been providing care to the most vulnerable residents of Southwest Virginia since 1982.

Who We Are

Starting as a hotline service in 1982 for victims of domestic violence, the program grew as we became aware of additional needs and as resources for those in need continued to be limited.

Today, FCSS offers services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as those experiencing homelessness. These services come in the form of advocacy, accompaniment, support groups, rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention, emergency shelter, utility assistance, youth prevention programming, eviction prevention, and community education.

The organization has expanded to a six-acre campus with a 4,000-square-foot crisis resource center (central office), and five emergency shelter facilities with the capacity for 76 individuals. FCSS also operates two transitional permanent supportive housing shelters for women, one permanent supportive housing shelter for men, and two facilities dedicated to distributing basic need items to individuals.

The 24-hour hotline, 1-800-572-2278, is still going strong, and an advocate can be reached at all times. Advocates are also available through our website by clicking on “Chat with us” in the bottom right corner.
