Marybeth Matthews Adkins has served as Chief Executive Officer of Family Crisis Support Services (FCSS) since 2012. FCSS started primarily as a shelter resource for victims of domestic/sexual violence and trafficking, but the organization’s role has expanded to help those who are facing homelessness because of a lack of social and economic parity and those living in poverty to achieve sustainable independence. Marybeth is the key advocate for those individuals in Southwest Virginia, often coordinating with area law enforcement agencies and victim witness protection programs to link consumers and clients to emergency shelters and/or safehouses, counseling, and navigation of court systems. Advocacy started early as Marybeth attended St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School in Sandusky, Ohio graduating in 1986. In 2008, Marybeth graduated from Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Human Services with a concentration in Family Counseling. In 1991, Marybeth graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a minor in psychology. Marybeth is at the helm of Family Crisis Support Services, responsible for business administration and nonprofit management. Responsibilities include supervising personnel, fundraising, grant writing, budgeting, government relations, marketing, and ensuring accountability of agency functions with FCSS’s Board of Directors, auditors, and funders. In Southwest Virginia, Marybeth is the key individual contacted for crisis intervention/situations, including individuals of all ages and families. Marybeth is adept at interviewing children and families, developing action plans, providing counseling, providing court accompaniment, and liaising between the courts and other community-based organizations. Marybeth possesses an excellent blend of analytical, prioritization, interpersonal, and listening skills. In addition, Marybeth has proven skills in establishing trust and rapport, empowering children and adolescents to achieve self-reliance, confidence, and self-esteem.
Marybeth serves on the following coalitions, councils, and boards:
- Member of the Advisory Board for Sexual and Domestic Violence (Commissioned by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin).
