Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot (VERP)
VERP can assist with utility payments (water, power, and sewer) as well as rent and rent arrears to avoid eviction.

Counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Wise, City of Norton, Towns of Appalachia, Big Stone Gap, Cleveland, Clincho, Clinchport, Clintwood, Coeburn, Duffield, Dungannon, Gate City, Grundy, Haysi, Honaker, Jonesville, Lebanon, Nickelsville, Pennington Gap, Pound, Richlands, St. Charles, St. Paul, Weber City, and Wise.

Neighbor to Neighbor
Our Neighbor to Neighbor Utility Assistance program can help you pay utility bills from both Old Dominion Power (ODP) and Appalachian Power (AEP). This funding is available beginning October 1 of each year until all funds are exhausted.

ODP bill cannot be higher than $250 and AEP bill cannot be higher than $300
Applicant must have paid at least $100 in utilities to ODP or AEP in the last 90 days
This $100 must not come from fuel assistance or another agency pledge
- Bill(s) must be in the applicant’s name
If you meet these qualifications, bring the following to our main office at Family Crisis Support Services, 5668 Freedom Blvd., Norton, Va.:
- Photo ID of applicant
- Photo IDs of all household members if possible
- Social Security cards of all household members
- Proof of income
- Utility bill
- Proof of payment
